on the wayの使い方【マスターしたい自然な表現】

「向かっている」を表す表現です。物理的に「今向かっているよ」と言う場合にも、「今やっている」状況を表す場合にも使えます。

 

on one’s wayでも全く同じ意味になりますが、私はherとかtheirとか所有格が何か考える時間を排除するためにon the wayを使っています。

 

例）

I’m on the way.

= I’m coming.

今向かっている

 

I’m on the way home.

家に向かっている

 

A: Are you done with it?

B: I’m on the way.

「終わった？」「今やってる」
